Wife Finally Applied for CCW Permit
 

About 8 months after mentioning she wanted to get her permit, the wife finally took the plunge today.

The catalyst was a class offered in conjunction with the gun show here this weekend. They offered a "Ladies Only" CCW course Friday evening, designed to be a "One Stop Shopping" event. She'd been putting it off because she didn't have time to go here and there to get passport photos, fingerprints, etc.

This course did all of that. Helped her fill out and notarize the application, did the electronic fingerprinting, gave her a safety and range class, took the photo, etc. All she has to do now is mail off the application.

A few notes. This was the first time they've done the "Ladies Only" course here. Talked to one of the organizers over the phone, and the intent was to provide an environment where the ladies would feel more comfortable and less inhibited about "asking stupid questions." The range portion is also not offered in the regular CCW classes offered at the gun shows.

BTW, they told me over the phone that they'd have .22 revolvers for the ladies to shoot. But my wife said that she also got to shoot a .38, and she liked it better. Of course, her preference has much to do with the trigger pull. Carpal tunnel has left her with a weak grip, so she'll like any gun with a soft trigger pull.

Also, my wife is mid-40s in age, and she said she was about the only "middle-aged" person in there. About five were very young, early early 20s, and the rest were little old ladies.

Personally, I think it's a good sign that the younger ladies were there. It sometimes seems that that age group is really gullible to the concepts that "the cops are always there" to protect you, or "it won't happen to me."

So yeah, I'm pretty stoked about the milestone. Especially considering that just 8 years ago when I first applied for mine, I got the "What the hell do you need that for" routine. Maybe tomorrow she'll tell me that we don't have enough hard red wheat stockpiled. Pigs might fly first, but I can hope, right?

Good for her! If your lucky she will only say "we don't have enough hard red wheat stockpiled".

Maybe she will say she wants a new .38 and 1000 rounds of ammo!

It is good to see that there is a spread in the age of women taking the classes.

If you see flying pigs at least both of you can shoot them in self defense of course...
